The problem with so-called best-of lists, is that they are really just a collection of items organized based on experience and time, in that there will be plenty of albums heard the following year and beyond that will hold just as much weight as these we dub as “Best.” So, as of right now, at this particular time in the tail end of 2010 and the first moments of 2011, these albums are the best. There’s no question about it; it will change. My next list (which I’ve started, but may take a while to publish) is dubbed, paraphrase: the best albums I didn’t check out in 2011 for some reason or another.

Joseph Pruitt of Family Trees has been busy creating a new one-man side project called Son of Rams; music so gritty and irresistible it’s perhaps the best cure for those winter time blues. Though we can hear the classic rock influences, from sixties pop melodies to seventies psychedelic rock riffs, there remains a refreshingly progressive building of sound in Pruitt’s work. His music explodes with triumphant, fuzzed-out glory reminding us of how dirty garage rock can be dangerous and comforting all at once. Jangly, charming, sultry and intoxicating, these sounds are just full of good times. Son Of Rams: Triple Eyed [mp3]

There’s something special brewing in Brooklyn and it largely surrounds one Joe Pruitt, whose band Family Trees gave us the single Dream Talkin’ a short while ago. Well, Joe just dropped me a note about his other band, Son Of Rams, and once again I’m smitten. Son Of Rams veers in a slightly different direction, namely Pruitt and company give it a psychedelic edge, although it is undoubtedly upbeat pop. “Triple Eyed” is a new song filled with vocal hooks and catchy fuzz-filled riffs and a wild, psychedelic guitar solo.
