Gandalf

Gandalf

Gandalf was an American psychedelic band active from 1965 through 1968 (per the band’s Wikipedia page). While they recorded their debut LP in 1967, it wasn’t released.

For nearly 40 years, their self-titled 1969 LP was their only publicly available studio LP. Available through Capitol Records, the label failed to promote the album, and a snafu where the incorrect record was included in the jacket causing a recall of the album further damaged the band’s reputation and sales.

However, the reputation of Gandalf grew, and Sundazed reissued the LP in 2002, then gave us Gandalf 2 in 2007. Finally, an album titled Tears of Ages was released in 2022 on High Point Records. The album was produced by original singer and guitarist Peter Sando.

You can buy the band’s music on Discogs, but be prepared to spend a pretty penny as even many of the reissues are hard to find.

Below, you’ll find a comprehensive collection of album reviews, features, and more from the little known, yet legendary psychedelic band:

The terrible condition I’m talking about: the records that are truly beat to hell.
