Sea Wolf: Stanislaus [Track Review]

Sea Wolf returns after a few years with a new album, White Water, White Bloom. “Stanislaus” comes from that album; more specifically, it comes as a bonus track on the vinyl version of the album. On “Stanislaus”, Sea Wolf continues their pop-heavy Americana-style folk. The song is impressive for a bonus track — such songs more often than not lean toward b-sides and outtakes, but “Stanislaus” finds Sea Wolf, who many considered a quite promising artist upon the release of their debut, fully realizing that promise. Bad Veins: Found [Track Review]

Back in 2007, I caught Bad Veins play a live broadcast for WOXY in New York during CMJ. My recollection is deceiving me — I was under the impression that their music was a bit louder and crazier. Their self-titled LP opens with “Found”, a song that champions melody and clever instrumentation. It contrasts sharply with the following track, “Gold And Warm”, which sounds ripe for popular radio. Eulogies: Here Anonymous [Album pReview]

There is an obvious sense of natural progression that can be heard on any given Eulogies track. They are a refreshing objection to the stagnant reality of rock ‘n roll. The haunting yet calming sound Peter Walker’s majestic voice is easily up to par with any lead singer already well appreciated in the music community. And with extensive touring, and the release of their latest album Here Anonymous (due April 7th), these realities are sure to shine a light for Walker and company. Darker My Love [Feature Band]

I was initially confounded by Darker My Love (MySpace). Many songs off their sophomore release, aptly titled 2, have the indie pop sound, but the strength behind guitars is quite a bit heavier than your typical â€œindie popâ€ band. Then I thought, Well wouldnâ€™t that mean the band fits Power Pop? Granted, power pop is a heavier sounding indie pop, but even that doesnâ€™t fit. For one, thereâ€™s too much drone.
