Violens: All Night Low

Violens

I love it when music videos come with a warning. Be it the infamous (and slightly coveted) NSFW label, or, in the case of “All Night Low” by Violens, the Epileptic-inducing, flashing lights, strobe-effect warning. Whatever the warning may say, this is what I read: we’ve got something a little different for you, we’re taking things to a whole new level, and get ready for awesomeness. White Birds: Hondora (Video)

White Birds

Soaked in reverb, White Birds‘ dreamy psychedelic beach pop tune “Hondora” is just what I need. It hints of a day brighter than today; fog sits low outside my house and there’s the stench of a standard Northwest rain in the air. “Hondora” has a sunny disposition that is calming and relaxing, and there is a hint of sadness that keeps it from being overly upbeat. As I said, perfect for today. Read More »White Birds: Hondora (Video)

Twin Cabins: Cool Kids (Video)

Twin Cabins

What a great video! Twin Cabins is the solo project of Mexico-born, California resident Nacho Cano. It is under the Twin Cabins name that he creates experimental dreamy Californian electro-pop with hints of chillwave, all of it at home on the beach. “Cool Kids” comes from the band’s 9-song debut I’m Sure, which a little email I received calls a love letter to past lovers, new lovers, and the comfort of an unpredictable future. Ravens & Chimes: Division Street (Video)

Ravens & Chimes

Ravens & Chimes is a New York art-pop band fronted by Asher Lack (son of famed artist Stephen Lack). Alpaca Sports: Just For Fun

Alpaca Sports

Alpaca Sports is a new Swedish indie pop band from Andreas Jonsson. Featuring Amanda Ã…kerman on back up vocals and a slew of friends on accompanying instruments, Alpaca Sports boasts a sound on par with Jens Lekman. “Just For Fun” is a lovable indie pop track off the band’s brand new debut single, which sold out a few days before its official release thanks to pre-orders. Inca Gold: Atom (Video)

Inca Gold

In their song, “Atom”, London-based Inca Gold filter their psychedelic drone through an array of colorful tones as vibrant as the new video for said song. “Atom” has a laid back beat, high-pitched near indecipherable vocal tenor, and a hint of nerdy-ness on par with what you might expect to hear from the live band at the Roadhouse in the David Lynch masterpiece Twin Peaks. Mind Spiders

Mind Spiders: Wait For Us (Video)

Mind Spiders are a bit out there, with wild synth-based music that conjoins 60s pop sensibilities with heavy late 70s garage rock. Their video for “Wait For Us” is similarly out there, the premise being “A reclusive man sends a distress beacon to catch his ticket off an abandoned planet”. Featuring a two-minute drone intro by Mark Ryan (who also stars in the band and in the film as “Spaceman 1”) before launching into the song. It’s definitely worth a watch and has a nice little twist toward the end that should not be all that surprising given the synopsis.

Clap Your Hands Say Yeah: Hysterical (Video)

Clap Your Hands Say Yeah

Here’s something we haven’t had in a while: something new from Clap Your Hands Say Yeah. In fact, just the other day I was looking through my CDs and came across their debut, self-titled LP, and wondered if the band was still around. “Hysterical” is the first single and title track off the band’s new LP. Not all too surprising, I missed the album’s release last September. Read More »Clap Your Hands Say Yeah: Hysterical (Video)
