Throughout “Anahita”, I kept expecting a monstrous climax — a growing, building, explosion that would refuse to subside. But Wilsen refrained, for the most part. A partial climax occurs around minute four, but after subsiding a minute later the band continues on for another two. It is not overwhelming, nor does it provide resolution. Last year, we saw a slew of videos that featured band members being killed in one gruesome fashion or another. Looks like we’re kicking of 2013 in a similar manner; “I Am Haunted” finds Indians front-man Søren Løkke Juul being tormented and tortured by a woman whose face remains, for the most part, hidden from view. The camera swirls around the basement space, where Juul is tied to a chair, slowly becoming more and more bruised and bloody.

Iceland has long produced artists with a unique take on the world, and one of my favorites is Sindri Már Sigfússon. He goes by the moniker Sin Fang when not fronting the Icelandic collective Seabear. Sigfússon has returned with Sin Fang’s third LP, Flowers, which is set for a mid-February release on Morr Music.

Haiku Salut is a new band out of Derbyshire Dales in the UK. The instrumental trio is said to be influenced heavily by Yann Tiersen and early Mum, and you can hear that in their song “Los Elefantes”. “Doom Room” has a new video, and it’s a bit weird. I like it. It’s off Little Wings‘ new LP, LAST. “Doom Room” features heavily bearded Little Wings brainchild Kyle Field, clad in shorts and a straw hat, wandering what appears to be the southwest; maybe rural California not far from his home in San Francisco.
