Cocoon: On My Way [Video]

Cocoon

In true Minty Fresh fashion, Cocoon is a lovable pop group with folk leanings that writes incredibly catchy tunes. With the lyrical prowess of Elliott Smith and the blues-y vocal styling of an indie-pop rendition of Ben Harper, Cocoon is sure to win over a diverse crowd with their upcoming depressingly titled My Friends All Died In A Plane Crash. The Guild League: Mouse Vs. Mountain [Video]

The Guild League

I cannot decide which item I’m more excited about, the free mp3 of “Dead Hour” or the video of “Mouse Vs. Mountain” by The Guild League. This band has been around a while and hints strongly of The Lucksmiths (thanks to their indie-pop nature, Australian home, and the frontman being none other than Tali White), and their following even includes… President Obama? Venice Is Sinking: Ryan’s Song [Video]

Venice Is Sinking

It’s only the first of March and I can already tell that 2009 is going to be an amazing year in music. Let’s do a quick list. Top releases by artist this year so far: Animal Collective, Beirut, Camera Obscura, The Pains of Being Pure at Heart, Pree, and Venice Is Sinking (MySpace). And I know I’m missing quite a bit here already. The last on the list is slated to give us their sophomore release, AZAR, (reviewed by Fense here) on March 31. Metal Hearts: Foothills [Video]

Metal Hearts

I’ve been thinking a lot about KZUU lately. For those of you new to FensePost, I DJed there as a grad student at Washington State University, while studying business. In my DJ days prior to kicking off this site, I remember picking up Metal Hearts‘ (MySpace) debut, Socialize, and giving it a good listen. I was astonished at how great the album was for a then recently signed group. Read More »Metal Hearts: Foothills [Video]

The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart: Everything With You [Video]

The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart

Ever since Up Against The Legends by The Legends came to dominate my playlist, I’ve been obsessed with super distorted pop music, and I’ve spent countless hours attempting in vain to find an adequate compliment to that album. There have been several close calls, but none have had the power The Legends packed into the jewel case until now. Introducing: The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart. What a lovely name for a band! The Steps: Dagger [Video]

The Steps

It is typical of the infamous “band video” to include customary shots of band performing said song, which gets real old real fast. Luckily that’s a travesty primarily held to major bands on major labels. The Steps (MySpace), with their new single “Dagger” and its subsequent video, follow suit… slightly. But they make it interesting with various clever camera placements and a constant fingering of the focus button. Read More »The Steps: Dagger [Video]

O’Death: Lowtide [Video]

O'Death

There’s something totally creepy about this video. Maybe it’s the epileptic intro, sure to send you into a seizure. Or maybe it’s the way the band seems to have been thrust into the 21st century from the mid 1800s pioneer days. Or maybe it’s the fact that they coddle skeletons and what appear to be quite realistic decaying corpses. Yeah, I think it’s probably that one. Read More »O’Death: Lowtide [Video]
