Dead Confederate: Run From The Gun [Video]

dead-confederate

I don’t know about you, but when it comes to me, I love that ancient video footage. Dead Confederate would agree; their new video for “Run From The Gun” is filled with old-time footage of wars and fights and explosions, manipulated with various effects and pieced together to fit the song’s calming, destructive power. The song departs from the band’s heavier rock sound, full of towering guitars and dreamy vocals. “Run From The Gun”, instead, is light with a hint of grit, lo-fi acoustic, and a playful beat. The two sounds would seem to contradict, but Dead Confederate plays them well on their sophomore release Sugar. Read More »Dead Confederate: Run From The Gun [Video]

Hotpants Romance: E-Mails [Video]

hotpants-romance

Oh, Hotpants Romance. So delightfully off key, and just so damn cute. Yes, the chaos driven trio of girls from across the pond are back with their oh so eccentric style of garage punk. Knowing how to make simple songs that make you laugh, love, and roll through a series of good time emotions in less than three minutes, you can’t help but love these girls for their immense spirit and happy go lucky attitudes. Portland Cello Project: Denmark [Video]

portland-cello-project

In support of their third full length, Thousand Words, Portland Cello Project put together a video for their song “Denmark” that has garnered attention worldwide. It is creative, unique, entertaining and emotive. And thus it fits PCP’s music, which for the first time is fully instrumental. Thousand Words, then, strays slightly from the band’s prior work due to the lack of vocals, but the music is just as heartfelt – if not more so. “Denmark” is an astonishingly powerful track that builds upon the band’s signature instrument and penchant for blending classically-based songs with inherent independent hipness. Neil Nathan: California Run [Video]

neil-nathan

Neil Nathan has to be one of the coolest people on earth. Imagine hitchhiking along a California highway with nothing but you’re sultry vocals and a dusty guitar case. Then, imagine that you were so in love with someone that you would not only travel a lost road for however long it might take to find them (3 1/2 minutes, maybe?), but that even being picked up by Rosario Dawson in a sweet hybrid couldn’t deter said love? Sound like a crazy scenario? Sure it does. But, that is exactly what sweet talkin’, love searching Neil has done in his video from the super catchy track “California Run”. The Black Keys: Tighten Up [Video]

black-keys

The girlfriend and I have been pretty adamant about keeping HBO, although Comcast charges out the ass for anything and everything. There are a few reasons for this, in her opinion (and a few extra in mine). It all has to do with their original programming — shows like True Blood, Bored to Death, the forthcoming Boardwalk Empire, and recent favorite Hung. Last week’s episode closed out with a bluesy, garage rendition of R&B, and I simply had to know who it was. Of course, it was The Black Keys with their song “Tighten Up”. Panda Riot: Motown Glass [Video]

panda-riot

Contrary to your own beliefs, whatever they may be, I feel that shoegaze is, more often than not, a very visual style of music. That’s why select bands choose to accompany the music with visual elements. This trait lends itself to music videos. Panda Riot mixes their shoegaze with indie pop, emphasizing a domineering, precocious drum machine beat accompanied with playful female vocals. Read More »Panda Riot: Motown Glass [Video]

I Am The Dot: The Crown [Video]

i-am-the-dot

Zach Tipton, a.k.a. I Am The Dot, has an irreparable and distinguished eye for inducing visual energy. His latest single, “The Crown” is an experimentally charged pop ballad that could very well be about anything you wish. But, with a very direct and certainly touching display of childhood imagery, his personal vision will become bloody obvious as you watch a young Zach roller-skate his way through a standard impressionable childhood. This song, from his latest EP The Royal Few, is about growth. It is about the spirit that embodies us at times. It is about time, and the entirely too fast pace of which we move through such a precious commodity. Read More »I Am The Dot: The Crown [Video]

Allo Darlin’: The Polaroid Song [Video]

allo-darlin

Allo Darlin’ is a fairly new band, which is somewhat hard to believe after hearing “The Polaroid Song”. It has the sound of early 90s twee pop artists like, well, Talulah Gosh and Heavenly and Tender Trap. This is no surprise when you learn that they share a member (Elizabeth) with Amelia Fletcher’s Tender Trap. And there are a few other bands in the mix — Hexicon (Mikey and Paul) and Moustache of Insanity (Bill), among others. “The Polaroid Song” is the first single off the band’s recent self-titled LP. In this video, the band pays tribute to and 80s staple: The Breakfast Club. Read More »Allo Darlin’: The Polaroid Song [Video]

Archaeology: White Walls [Video]

archaeology

So I haven’t posted about these guys in a while, and I stumbled across this video for a song I hadn’t heard. The song is “White Walls” and Portland, OR’s Archaeology takes a slightly different direction from their EP Change of Address. The song isn’t nearly as bouncy as some of that earlier stuff, but it maintains plenty of indie pop sensibilities that will keep old fans happy and, from the sound of it, attract a sizable new audience.
