Bend Sinister Gives Away 10 Free Tracks!

bend_sinister

In the new age of digital downloading and iTunes supremacy, many artists are turning to giving tracks away as a way to get their name out and about. Maybe it’s effort to get you to come out to your local pub, farmer’s market, or Tully’s to watch them give you the magic live and in person. Vancouver B.C.’s Bend Sinister has graciously joined the hopefuls by giving away 10 free tracks as downloads on their website. And by now we should know that just because it’s free, doesn’t mean it lacks quality. Read More »Bend Sinister Gives Away 10 Free Tracks!

Four Tet Announce First Album In Over Four Years!

four-tet

The last Four Tet album was released well over four years ago, so it’s a bit surprising to hear Kiernan Hebden has a new one on the horizon. That new one has a name: There Is Love In You. And it has a release date: January 26, 2010. Expect good things from the Domino Records release; we’ll all be treated with a two-track 12″ single early next month for the a-side track “Love Cry” and a b-side dubbed “Our Bells”. There Is Love In You will be released via CD, LP, and mp3. Read More »Four Tet Announce First Album In Over Four Years!

Weezer Snuggies: Cute + Adorable Alert!

weezer-snuggie

Yesterday Weezer (yes, that dorky band we all fell in love with upon the release of their debut LP way back in the 90s, and that has since gone on to be quite popular in the world of music) introduced to the world their very own Weezer-branded Snuggie. And yes, that’s the ridiculously popular sleeved blanket (the most genius product idea since bottled water). You can get your very own Weezer Snuggie for only 30 bucks. Also in the mix is the band’s new album, Raditude, a title that meshes radical with attitude. How very 90s. Read More »Weezer Snuggies: Cute + Adorable Alert!

The Anters Visit Daytrotter

The Antlers, band

Over the summer, I fell in love with two songs by The Antlers off their debut LP, Hospice. Those songs were “Bear” and “Two”. Mysterious drones and pleasant horn breaks fronted by vocals that lapse into momentary angst with unique harmonies. That’s what had me sold on “Bear” by this band. “Two”, on the other hand, kicked off with that light strum and high-pitched falsetto vocals that, while distinctly different from the other track, still grabbed me as a listener. It just seemed too perfect. Well over the summer the crew visited Rock Island, IL, the home of Daytrotter, to record a session. And we, the public, finally have access to the resulting songs. Railcars Take Miraculous ‘Cathedral With No Eyes’ On The Road

railcars

San Francisco garage-noise-pop outfit Railcars dropped their new record yesterday, a mystical collective of ferocious bouts of electro noise dubbed Cathedral With No Eyes. You may remember Railcards from our debut/premiere of “Passion Of St. Edmund (Rebirth)”, or maybe even our premature review of Cathedral With No Eyes from a month and a half ago. Frontman Aria Jalali takes noise and throws it through a lollipop dreamboat; its almost unbelievably upbeat pop nature is something that simply must be heard. Fanfarlo Head This Way In Support Of ‘Reservoir’

fanfarlo

Fanfarlo has three key influences, in my opinion. First, the blaring trumpet and deep lead vocals on tracks like “The Walls Are Coming Down” reminisce of early Beirut (circa The Gulag Orkestar). Then, there’s the anthemic qualities in songs like “Luna”, which conjure artists such as Arcade Fire. And, finally, the theatrics of greats like The Decemberists. Still, I feel safe saying that the combination of influences is just right – it makes their music their own, and it makes an album like Reservoir really, really good. Grant Hart (Hüsker Dü) Treats Us To Some ‘Hot Wax’

Grant Hart

Starting November 5 in Iowa, Grant Hart (of legendary 80s act Hüsker Dü) will hit the road in support of his new album, Hot Wax. What’s perhaps most intriguing about this album is the inclusion of accompanying artists inlcuding Godspeed You! Black Emperor and Silver Mt. Zion. When the epic nature of the classical-meets-post-rock meets a powerful 80s alt-guru like Hart, greatness is sure to ensue. Read More »Grant Hart (Hüsker Dü) Treats Us To Some ‘Hot Wax’

Eux Autres Release ‘Strangled Days’… Today!

Eux Autres

Longtime FensePost favorites, Eux Autres release their new EP today. Strangled Days finds the brother/sister pop duo straying slightly from their French roots, but it’s still the same great pop we always loved from these guys. Heather and Nicholas Larimer have since expanded to a trio, having added Yoshi Nakamoto (Aislers Set & Still Flyin’) on drums in 2008. Strangled Days was recorded by Jason Quever (Papercuts) and can be found as a 10″ EP on Where It’s At Is Where You Are Records. Read More »Eux Autres Release ‘Strangled Days’… Today!

‘Romance Is Boring’ Decalres Los Campesinos!

Los Campesinos

UK punk meets indie-pop band Los Campesinos! has announced their new album, Romance Is Boring. With an extensively packed tracklist, the band boasts it is their first foray into experimenting with more orchestration with an emphasis on brass. Recorded over the summer here in Seattle, as well as in Connecticut and Monmouthshire (my guess, somewhere in the UK), Los Campesinos! gives us a sneak peek at the themes behind Romance Is Boring, saying the album is about the death and decay of the human body, lost love, mental breakdown, and football.
