I cannot tell you how I stumbled across Ballboy (MySpace), mainly because I cannot remember, despite it being just a moment ago. I had been searching a different band I’ve been contemplating covering, clicking random links and two to four clicks deep I was there, on their page. As far as I can tell, there’s very little in common between the two groups, other than being from Europe. And that’s a continent. So that doesn’t count. Read More »Ballboy [Feature Band]

Sexy Kids will likely bring a slew of undesirables to FensePost. After all, the term “Sexy Kids” can be taken in a very wrong direction. And the site did see a spike in the search term “Preteen” after we covered Oneida’s masterpiece Preteen Weaponry last year. But maybe these sickos will at least go out listening to good music… right? We can only hope. Read More »Sexy Kids [Feature Band]

In the realm of indie-pop there are few that stray beyond the comfort of the sub-genre’s homogenous nature. Virtually every artist that expands on the traditional elements of indie-pop does so by pulling from other genres like folk and psychedelic rock and prog. Slaraffenland is no exception. The Netherlands have a secret that is rapidly being exposed. Silence is Sexy is an electric and gravity-defying group specializing in harmonies and the owners of an arsenal of alternative instrumentals. On This Ain’t Hollywood, the guys portray exactly what it means to use powerful lyrics to dramatize pulse pounding in the spirit of My Bloody Valentine. Read More »Silence Is Sexy [Feature Band]

So my end of year list was part hit, part miss. I nailed it, for the most part, but flubbed by including two ’07 albums. To be a pal, I left up the two (Beirut and Stars) and simply crossed them out. So, that left my 33 and 1/3 off by two. I’ve taken it upon myself to add new numbers 32 and 33. Proceed… Read More »Top 33 and 1/3 of 2008, The Edits
Yet again here is a feature band discovered through the infamous IndiePages demos section. En Francais boasts a wide range of influences, from more well known groups like Belle & Sebastian and The Beatles to lesser known artists and lables like The Lucksmiths and Sarah Records. And it all shows in their music. Read More »En Francais [Feature Band]
The year is over. We have a new president about to take office, a failing economy, and out of control weather. The good news is that last year saw some amazing albums hit and, thanks to the rampant oppression of hard times, next year should prove just as fruitful music-wise. After all, difficult times, depression, etc. can often breed above average achievements in the arts… right?
So here it is, my top 33 and 1/3 albums of the year and the last post of 2008. The 33 is for the top 33 albums (with a few EPs included) of the year, while the 1/3 is an honorable mention 7″ single. We’ll begin with the latter…

So I don’t really drink champagne, but I’ll enjoy me a thick stout or juicy lager any day. And dry red wine tends to go down a bit smoother than it should. So, as I pop open a bottle of Chilean Carménère, I am ready to compile my top ten music videos of 2008.
The image above is a picture I took last week of The Edison Eye, the art gallery for the town in which live during the week these days. I think it’s a fitting header for the top videos of the year…Read More »Fense’s Top Ten Music Videos of 2008
God, love is a crazy thing. It makes you do crazy things, have crazy feelings, and be… well… crazy. Distance only enhances the longing. Like right now — I really, really miss my girlfriend. It’s the knowledge that she’s there, laying in my bed in my condo without me, lonely just like me. Yet I cannot be there for her. It’s songs like “The Last Thing I Do” by Nedelle that exacerbate the whole situation. Read More »Nedelle [Feature Band]
