Throw Me The Statue: Ancestors [Album Preview]

Throw Me The Statue

Songs like “Young Sensualists” and “Yucatan Gold” off Throw Me The Statue‘s debut LP Moonbeams were, in my opinion, far greater in depth and personality than the song that initially garnered them fame: “Lolita”. Thus is often the curse of the first single; luckily their sophomore follow-up to Moonbeams debuts with “Ancestors”, a song that has just as much character as the aforementioned greats off Moonbeams. The new release is dubbed Creaturesque and will find a comfortable home yet again on Secretly Canadian. Read More »Throw Me The Statue: Ancestors [Album Preview]

Railcars: Passion Of St. Edmund (Rebirth) [FensePost Exclusive/Debut]

Railcars

Railcars is Aria Jalali and his music is heavily influences by that of Jamie Stewart of Xiu Xiu. Stewart, in fact, mixed Jalali’s debut single, Cities Vs. Submarines, a fact we noted in the FensePost feature of Railcars. Railcars’ latest release appears to continue in a similar vein with noise-ridden instrumentation and wild, piercing yelps. Grand Archives: Silver Among The Gold [Album Preview]

Grand Archives

Mat Brooke has long been a favorite musician of mine, back from the days of Carissa’s Wierd. From there he partnered with fellow Wierder Ben Bridwell in Band Of Horses, but his participation with the Horses was short lived. He dropped out of the band to focus on Grand Archives (MySpace) as well as his Seattle bar, Redwood. So the latest is that Grand Archives are prepping to give us the follow-up to their 2008 self-titled debut. Read More »Grand Archives: Silver Among The Gold [Album Preview]

God Help The Girl [Feature Band]

God Help The Girl

Belle & Sebastian’s Stuart Murdoch has a new project. His latest venture is God Help The Girl and, in all honestly, as far as I can tell it’s pretty similar to Belle & Sebastian. That’s what I wrote as “Mary’s Market” played over my speakers for the first time. “Come Monday Night” on the other hand takes things in a slightly different direction, and it’s here where God Help The Girl sets itself apart from Belle & Sebastian. Jeff Hanson: 1978 – 2009

Jeff Hanson

Sad news was released last Friday, as the independent music world lost an amazing talent, and the world lost an amazing individual. Jeff Hanson was found dead in his new apartment; preliminary reports are calling it an accidental fall. I met Jeff a few years back when he performed at a small art gallery in Moscow, ID. Everyone always talks about how his voice was like no other, but for me it was that coupled with the passion in which he relayed his songs to his audience. Read More »Jeff Hanson: 1978 – 2009

moped10 [Feature Band]

moped10

Wait for it… Wait for it… Now hit play. That bizarrely eclectic, awkwardly erratic sound you hear is moped10. And the result of their self-titled DIY release moped10: likely one of the top 5, if not top 3 DIY acts/albums of the year thus far. From the Chad VanGaalen-esque electro-tampering solo in opener “Not Free” to the pop frenzy with lyrical quips that reminisce of The B-52s in “A Walk In The Woods”, moped10 is a must hear. If you cannot already tell… I’m lovin’ this! Read More »moped10 [Feature Band]

Jeremy Burk [Feature Artist]

Jeremy Burk

Seconds into Jeremy Burk‘s “The Clapping Song”, banjo riffs begin to reverse any or all bad spirits you may have had. And hand clapping, as expected, adds to the wonder and violent pleasure that will certainly suppress all ill feelings despite rather sad lyrics. And the contrast in Burk’s voice brings an even brighter light to such an amusement. This very entertaining new-wave folk singer holds the key to every door imaginable and gives entrance to the brave new world of a music and vocals euphoria. Read More »Jeremy Burk [Feature Artist]
