The Fenbi International Superstars Visit Seattle

fenbi_international_superstars

What is a band of Irish/worldly gypsy storytellers to do when they reside in one of most musician filled small cities in the world? Well, you probably need to be creative in your displays of talent. And The Fenbi International Superstars have been doing just that in Portland for some time. Their live shows are unparalleled to the often drowsy and depressing rain-based tunes you are likely to hear on any corner of the home for fugitives and refugees. Unlike your average roselander musicians (though each member is not scared to rep Port Townsend as well), these guys are fun! And many fans would attest to the fact that these worldly artists have conquered their hometown. So what’s next you say? Well, obviously that would have to be the Emerald City. The Wind Whistles: Animals Are People Too [Album Review]

The Wind Whistles

Liza and Tom are back again! Yes, British Columbia’s finest boy/girl folk/pop The Wind Whistles have blessed us with yet another collection of seriously fun tracks that are nothing short of delightful. But, Animals Are People Too shall ring a bell with a pitch very different from their debut album, Window Sills. It is safe to say they have stepped their game up. Or at least taken it in a different, possibly four legged, direction. Read More »The Wind Whistles: Animals Are People Too [Album Review]

The Rest: Everyone All At Once [Album Review]

The Rest

There is no telling what emotions The Rest might conjure up when you hear their brilliant sophomore release Everyone All At Once. This is an indie-rock rock-symphony for our time. The band has worked long and hard to create an atmosphere derived solely from their heart’s ambition. As well as pulling influence from nature and booze. But, aren’t most great works inspired in such ways? Read More »The Rest: Everyone All At Once [Album Review]

Father Abraham [Feature Artist]

Father Abraham

Boston native Father Abraham is a hip hop artist baked from a different mold. His thought-inspiring words bring forth the power of joy, but do not distort the reality in which he lives. It is quite a social distortion to hear such a funky fresh and uplifting beats that is fronted by lines like We all go to hell in a fast car. It’s fun, it’s sad, it’s the purity of endangered lives. Through his own personal battles, this MC exploits all sense of being. Read More »Father Abraham [Feature Artist]

National Beekeepers Society: Pawn Shop Etiquette [Album Review]

National Beekeepers Society

The National Beekeepers Society‘s style is sort of rough around the edges, but sets itself over happy-go-lucky melodies. It’s been done before, and can create a rather sketchy scenario. But, their album Pawn Shop Etiquette is proof that these guys have mastered where so many have failed. They deep sea dive into the vast “sort of punk, but not really” ocean that can be devastating and as dried up as Dennis Miller’s sense of humor. Hotpants Romance: It’s A Heatwave [Album Review]

Hotpants Romance

Hotpants Romance are so perfectly strange they’re almost hard to comprehend. They boast their work as “three girls, three years, three chords”. They really are as simple as that on the surface. Yet, there are so many things from their album It’s A Heatwave that are shiny, bright, and utterly complicated in the most splendid of ways. Laura, Lowri, and Kate seem to enjoy the frame of mind and sound they have developed by the large amount of energy they exude through each track. Benjamin Bear: Lungs [Album Review]

Benjamin Bear

Seattle was once a city of depression-based rock enthusiasm when the times where as confusing as a text message from Michael J. Fox. But, times were almost better then. And we needed something to be angry about. Nowadays, there is plenty to be upset with. So why not enjoy the city’s new excursions into a more inspiring blend of progressive shoegaze. This would be the work of Benjamin Bear, brainchild of pianist Mychal Cohen and percussionist David Stern and their refreshing album Lungs. Read More »Benjamin Bear: Lungs [Album Review]

Robert Gomez: Pine Sticks and Phosphorus [Album Review]

Robert Gomez

For those not currently in the know, it might seem strange to hear that the soft-hearted anti-folk artist Robert Gomez was once a member a popular Texas based mambo band known as the Latin Pimps. Or that he once toured as a circus performer (of sorts). You won’t hear much direct influence from these experiences on his latest solo effort, Pine Sticks and Phosphorus. But there is an obvious “influenced by the earth” feel to the album. As well as it being a cut above your average singer/songwriter’s work. Jon and Roy: Another Noon [Track Review]

Jon And Roy

Jon and Roy are a couple of charismatic Canadian cats. Anyone can see this. Their less than threatening folk style represents their entire persona as freelance artists quite well. And “Another Noon” sounds like what Eddie Vedder was trying to do a couple years ago. But, Jon and Roy don’t sound like Count Chocula trying to do a lullaby for foster kids. These guys are much sweeter. This is a song that is sure to captivate audiences with their spontaneous picturesque love affair with a picturesque life. Anomie Belle: Sleeping Patterns [Album Review]

Anomie Belle

The taunting yet soulful words of Toby Campbell, a.k.a. Anomie Belle, are a true symbol of constructive rhythm and melancholy blues. Her album Sleeping Patterns is 11 songs that are nothing short of keyboard-infused goodness. The entirety of this album will run through your heart like a 2 a.m. subway ride through an empty of city of dust and desire. Read More »Anomie Belle: Sleeping Patterns [Album Review]
