Summer Fiction: By The Sea MP3

Summer Fiction

The great thing about Summer Fiction is that their songs are so, well, summery. Indie pop music is the sort that so often remains unchanged, boundaries un-pushed, and you get a little of that here. But rather than being a hindrance, it’s comforting. “By The Sea” blends soothing male and female vocals with plenty of hooks, a soft guitar strum and catchy bass line, and a playful drum rhythm. The Lovely Sparrows: Tall Cedars Of Lebanon (Album Review)

The Lovely Sparrows have a way of putting together words and music that make the band one of today’s leading folk-rock and folk-pop artists. With Tall Cedars of Lebanon, the Sparrows continue the trend they began as early as their debut EP, Pulling Up Floors, Pouring On (New) Paint.

Today The Moon, Tomorrow The Sun: We Were Wild MP3

“We Were Wild” by Today The Moon, Tomorrow The Sun is a track like Arcade Fire’s “Wake Up”. It defies all you thought you knew about rock music, takes things in a completely different direction than expected — a direction much more anthemic and epic. Today The Moon, Tomorrow The Sun draws from an insurmountable realm of influence. Read More »Today The Moon, Tomorrow The Sun: We Were Wild MP3

Exitmusic: The Sea (Video)

I played Exitmusic‘s “The Sea” on my KSVR radio show a few weeks back. I found the music to be somewhere between the haunting melodies of Beach House and the hushed whispers of Still Corners. The band consists of New York duo Aleksa Palladino and Devon Church. And if Palladino looks familiar, it’s because she also plays a character in HBO’s Boardwalk Empire. Blue Skies For Black Hearts: Sitting On The Edge (MP3 Debut)

FensePost is excited to debut “Sitting On The Edge” off Blue Skies For Black Hearts‘ LP Embracing The Modern Age. The song continues the band’s penchant for classic pop sounds backed by glorious pop-rock guitar hooks, loud drums and late 60s to early 70s-style pop vocals filtered through a haze of 90s indie rock. “Sitting On The Edge” features all of these, blending together elements of The Kinks, Phil Spector and Teenage Fanclub into one blissful, fun pop mess. Lost Lander: Cold Feet MP3

I thought Lost Lander‘s “Cold Feet” sounded familiar. The song appeared on this year’s PDX Pop Now! compilation. But there’s more. Lost Lander is the new band of Matt Sheehy and Brent Knopf (Ramona Falls, Menomena). “Cold Feet” has the sound f Knopf’s other band and his prior band, though a bit more restrained and calculated. Lots of vocal harmonies, precise percussion and intense instrumentation. Read More »Lost Lander: Cold Feet MP3

Erik Blood (Feature)

Look around the indie music scene in Seattle, and likelihood is that you’ll see the fingerprints of Erik Blood popping up all around. He’s a former member of Turn-Ons, released a superb album a few years back called The Way We Live under his own name, and has built up quite an impressive list of releases in which you can find his name listed under “Producer” (including The Moondoggies, The Lights and Partman Parthorse!). Now we can add Soundtrack to his growing repertoire. Read More »Erik Blood (Feature)
