Kinski

Kinski: Conflict Free Diamonds

Kinski

I’m a car guy. It’s pretty damn obvious. I gave up my 1974 BMW (sadly) back in December, but that makes my daily driver a jet black (interior and exterior) 1979 El Camino. The thing is beastly, with a 350 four barrel carb and dual exhaust. The torque gives me tingles. Likewise, I get that meaty, pedal-to-the-metal feeling when I listen to “Conflict Free Diamonds”, the latest from Seattle band Kinski. Read More »Kinski: Conflict Free Diamonds

Golden Bloom

An Interview with Shawn Fogel of Golden Bloom

Though we have never met in person, Golden Bloom front-man Shawn Fogel and I have known each other for about half a decade. Back when he created music under his own name rather than the Golden Bloom moniker. Fogel’s music has always had a more contemporary pop sound than you’re standard indie artist, and I think it’s fared him well. No more is this apparent than on his new EP, No Day Like Today, which is a notable leap forward for the artist. I had the pleasure of chatting with Fogel last weekend to discuss the new release, his plans for the future, and the changes the band has witnessed over the years.

The Ruby Suns: Kingfisher Call Me

The Ruby Suns

Have you heard this yet!? I’m talking about “Kingfisher Call Me” by The Ruby Suns off their forthcoming LP Christopher. The song is giving me intense chills right now! It’s easily the best thing I’ve heard ever from The Ruby Suns. Check minute 3:08. It’s like the end of “TMNT Mask” by Chad VanGaalen (off Soft Airplane) adorned in 80s glam. Brilliant! Oceanography: Drinking Water (Track Premiere)

Oceanography by Wes Sumner

Brian Kelly calls his music Americana, but there are additives that give it a twist. He throws in the terms “loud” and “gothic” on occasion. It makes sense — Oceanography‘s music is thematically draped in all the proper elements. Roots, tradition, American history. Yet it’s far from traditional Americana music. Songs like “Reggie Jackson” and “American Cars” side on the obvious. But my focus today is our soundcloud premiere of “Drinking Water”, the final track on Oceanography’s sophomore EP Parachutes of Plenty. Read More »Oceanography: Drinking Water (Track Premiere)

Christopher Owens: Lysandre’s Theme / Here We Go

Christopher Ownes by Ryan McGinely

I think Christopher Owens‘ departure from Girls caught everyone a bit off guard. The band had enjoyed substantial hype over the past few years, and the music they continued to put out kept increasing in quality. But even with that departure, it seemed inevitable that we would hear from Owens again soon. You can’t create so many heartfelt, personal songs in such a short period of time and just cut away that element of your life. Read More »Christopher Owens: Lysandre’s Theme / Here We Go
